Adidas had a decline of 6% to € 3.533 billion in sales for the first quarter of 2014, the German group announced on 06/05/2014.

Adidas Group's net income was €204m. "While we must always be very careful with exchange rates and their impact on our financial results, the first quarter will be the low point of our performance. I expect a strong second quarter to show the way forward," said Herbert Hainer, CEO of Adidas Group. Sales rose 22% in emerging markets during the same period.

Adidas has confirmed its objectives for 2014, namely: an increase in its turnover and net profit of between €830m and €930m. The group expects a strong increase in sales during the 2014 World Cup. Adidas has reported a 27% increase in quarterly sales in the football market, mainly due to the sale of shirts. The brand is the kit supplier for nine out of 32 selections, including Spain, Argentina and Germany. The group expects €2bn in net additional business during the competition, or an increase of 33%.
