Qatar: host country of the 2022 World Cup, is a candidate to host the 2032 Olympic Games

Qatar has sent a letter to the IOC indicating its intention to join the "continuous dialogue" on the organisation of the 2032 Summer Olympic Games, said Sheikh Joaan ben Hamad ben Khalifa Al-Thani, president of the Qatar Olympic Committee, to AFP on 27/07/2020. Qatar thus joins India, Australia (Queensland) and China (Shanghai) among the declared candidates for these Summer Olympic Games.

"Qatar has earned the reputation of a world-class destination for major sporting events. It is this proven track-record and wealth of experience, along with our desire to use sport to promote peace and cultural exchange, that will form the basis of our discussions with the Committee," continued the Sheikh.

This announcement extends the soft power sports objectives of the Persian Gulf emirate which, after hosting the 17^th World Athletics Championships (from 27/09 to 06/10/2019) and the 2019 Club World Cup (from 11 to 21/12/2019) in Doha, will be the host country for the 2022 World Cup, which will start on Monday 21/11/2022 - with a match involving Qatar, who have qualified as an official team - at…
