Germany: DAZN formalises acquisition of 121 of the 138 Champions League matches (2021-2024)

DAZN has acquired the exclusive broadcasting rights to the Champions League in Germany (excluding Tuesday's best fixture acquired by Amazon on 10/12/2019) from UEFA for the 2021-2024 season, announced the OTT platform on 04/08/2020. This information was announced by the German media on 12/12/2019.

The acquisition represents 121 matches out of 138 per season, from the playoffs to the final (co-broadcast). The free-to-air broadcasting rights for the final have been acquired by the German public audiovisual group ZDF. With the exception of the final, the competition will therefore be broadcast in its entirety in Germany by OTT operators (DAZN, and the VoD platform Amazon Prime Video), a first in Europe.

The pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland, which shares the Champions League rights for the current cycle (2018-2021) with DAZN and has been broadcasting the competition in Germany since 2000, was not awarded a lot in the tender issued by UEFA and its agency TEAM Marketing.
