USA: ESPN+ (OTT) had 8.5 million subscribers at the end of June 2020 (+6.1 million in one year)

ESPN+, the OTT sports platform launched on 12/04/2018 in the United States at a monthly rate of $4.99 (€4.50), had 8.5 million subscribers as of 27/06/2020, according to figures published by The Walt Disney Company, parent company of the ESPN sports pay-TV package, on 04/08/2020.

ESPN had 2.4 million subscribers on 29/06/2019 and 6.6 million on 28/12/2019. This increase was mainly due to the launch of the Disney+ OTT platform on 12/11/2019 and the increase in pay-per-view revenues for UFC fights at the beginning of 2020. Disney had launched a joint offering with its three platforms Disney, ESPN and Hulu on the same day (see below).

With the launch of this joint offer, however, average monthly revenue per subscriber decreased for ESPN+ from $5.33 in June 2019 to $4.18 in June 2020.

The number of ESPN+ subscribers exceeds Disney's forecast of 8 to 12 million subscribers by 2024, on 11/04/2019.
