Euro 2020: UEFA to create six to eight regional zones for better geographical spread for matches

UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) will "by the end of August" create six to eight regional zones "to ensure a good geographical distribution across Europe for the Euro 2020 matches," the European confederation said following the meeting of its executive committee in Turin (ITA) on 13/05/2014.

On 19/09/2014 at the Espace Hippomène Space in Geneva (SUI), UEFA will announce the list of 13 European cities hosting Euro 2020. 19 cities (listed below) filed applications before the deadline of 25/04/2014.

The voting procedure for the allocation of matches was confirmed by the UEFA executive committee; the host city for the final and semi-finals will be selected first (London and Munich are the two candidate cities), then the four hosts will be selected that will each host a quarterfinal and three group matches.

Next, the zones will be used in the choice of hosts for the eight packages of three matches each for the round of 16. (Each zone will have at least two candidate sites, and be determined by the executive committee of UEFA whose federations have not submitted an…
