2020-21 Champions League: Stade Rennais FC now qualified directly for the group stage

"Thanks to a third place finish in Ligue 1 after the 2019-20 season, and after the qualifications of FC Internazionale Milano (Serie A TIM), Manchester United FC (Premier League), Sevilla FC (LaLiga Santander) and Shakhtar Donestk (Premier-Liha, UKR) for the semi-finals of the Europa League, the Reds and Blacks now advance directly to the group stage of the Champions League," Stade Rennais FC (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) announced on 11/08/2020.

The four semi-finalists of the 2019-20 Europa League have all already qualified for the group stage of the 2020-21 Champions League through their respective domestic championships, therefor the Champions League place allocated to the winner of the Europa League now goes to the 3^rd place of the 2019-20 table of the French championship, the country ranked 5^th in the UEFA coefficient of association clubs. Stade Rennais will therefore not have to play the third qualifying round, nor the possible play-off round initially envisaged.
