Champions League "Final 8": "Impossible to renew this tournament format" (Aleksander Ceferin, UEFA)

"We are working day and night on the issues related to Covid-19, so everything post-2024 is a bit at a standstill, to be honest. This tournament ('Final 8') could be interesting in the future but I don't think we could do that because the schedule is too dense and we have to keep the domestic leagues in mind. I don't know when to insert a tournament of a week or two in May. I think it is impossible. We will start discussing the future of European and world football in September. We will bring all the stakeholders together and see what solution we find," said Aleksander Ceferin (SVN), UEFA president, of the 'Final 8' tournament (knockout matches without a second leg match, played on neutral ground) of the 2019-20 Champions League, to Agence France Presse, on 13/08/2020.
