Brazil 2014: FIFA agrees to insure selected players before 26/05/2014

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) has agreed to insure players selected for the World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) before 26/05/2014, the official start date for preparation, the ECA (European Club Association) stated on 13/05/2014.

The week from 19 to 25/05/2015 is normally a period of rest, according to the international calendar, but many selections, including the French team, begin their preparations on that week. At a meeting of the CSFP (Professional Football Strategy Council) in Turin (ITA) on 13/05/2014, ECA asked FIFA to modify the dates for which internationals are insured.

Various teams that are qualified for the World Cup have training camps set up for before that official start date. Among them, in particular, is the United States, which has multiple players playing in English or German clubs. These national convocations are always worrying for clubs, who fear seeing their key players injured during these assignments.
