Premier League: Leicester City FC to have a professional women's team from 2020-21

King Power International, the Thai group that owns Leicester City FC (Premier League), has acquired Leicester City Women's Football Club (FA Women's Championship, 2^nd division) in order to have a professional women's team from the 2020-21 season, announced the club on 22/08/2020.

"The club has undertaken a sustained period of consultation with the independently established Leicester City Women's Football Club, which has been supported by LCFC since its formation in 2004. The outcome of this collaboration is a long-term strategy for the wide-ranging enhancement of women's football, from professional level to grassroots participation, throughout the region," said Leicester City FC, whose new women's team will begin the championship on Sunday 06/09/2020 (versus Blackburn Rovers).

Russ Fraser, former women's team general at West Ham United FC and Reading FC, has been appointed head of women's football.
