United States: players and sports teams boycott games in protest against police violence

The players of the NBA franchise Milwaukee Bucks, followed by those of their opponent Orlando Magic, decided to boycott their playoff game on 26/08/2020 in order to protest against the police violence suffered by Black Americans and in particular Jacob Blake, 29 years old, hit by seven bullets fired in the back by police officers during an arrest in Kenosha (Wisconsin, a city located about sixty kilometers south of Milwaukee) on 23/08/2020.

This action resulted in the postponement of the other two games during this NBA playoff night (Houston Rockets - Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Lakers - Portland Trail Blazers) and a total stoppage of the 2019-20 season is being considered by the players of the NBA, according to American media. The WNBA has also decided to postpone its three games on 26/08/2020.

The Milwaukee Brewers MLB franchise also decided not to take part in their game against the Cincinnati Reds (26/08/2020). Two other MLB games were also postponed.
