National team matches: UEFA may decide results of matches that can't be played via a draw

The UEFA administration may be required to draw lots (victory 1-0, defeat 0-1 or draw 0-0) to determine the result of a match between national teams which cannot be played or postponed, without either of the two teams concerned being held responsible, according the European body on 31/08/2020.

"The preparation of the national team matches is progressing against a background of difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of the UEFA Return to Play Protocol (available to download), which includes a rigorous testing programme, is aimed at ensuring that matches can go ahead as planned," said UEFA, while the group phase of the 2020-21 Nations League begins on Thursday 03/09/2020 (calendar available to download).

"However, positive Covid-19 cases from tests conducted before the matches may result in groups of players or entire teams being placed into quarantine and national associations being unable to field a team for a specific match, following a decision of the relevant competent national/local authority," added the European Confederation.
