Marcelo Claure, an American-Bolivian businessman, has acquired a 35% stake in Girona FC (LaLiga Smartbank), announced the club on 28/08/2020. Notably owner of the global telecommunications conglomerate Brightstar, Marcelo Claure (49) is also co-owner and president of Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami (MLS), and president of Club Bolivar (Bolivian first division).

"Marcelo Claure's entry into Girona FC is specified with the purchase of a shareholding in Girona Football Group by Pere Guardiola (brother of Pep Guardiola, coach of Manchester City FC, Premier League). With this transaction, City Football Group becomes the main shareholder with 47% of the shares, Claure with 35% and Girona Football Group with 16%," explained Girona FC.

"This operation will involve a restructuring of the board of directors, which will be chaired by Pere Guardiola. Ignasi Mas-Bagà, president of the council since 2015, will continue as CEO of the club and Delfí Geli as institutional president. Changes in the board of directors must be ratified at the next shareholders' meeting," added the Catalan club.
