Premier League: 2,500 spectators for Brighton - Chelsea (friendly), a "very encouraging test event"

2,500 spectators attended the friendly match between the Premier League clubs Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Chelsea FC (1-1), at the Amex Stadium (30,666 capacity), on 29/08/2020. This was the first match played on English soil with spectators in attendance since the suspension of the 2019-20 Premier League season due to the Covid-19 pandemic on 19/03/2020.

"Brighton & Hove Albion did a fantastic job at their test event for the return of supporters and it was great to see fans in a Premier League stadium for the first time since March. The success of having 2,500 supporters in the Amex was very encouraging and we are committed to having full stadia as soon as possible, with safety always our priority. We are working hard alongside our clubs, the Government and the safety authorities to achieve this," said Richard Masters, chief executive of the Premier League, on 30/08/2020.
