esports: Visa becomes partner of EVOS Esports (Indonesia) and enters the Asian market

Visa, an American payment solutions and financial services group, has become the main partner of EVOS Esports from 2020, announced the esports organisation on 01/09/2020. EVOS Esports, based in Singapore, has teams in Indonesia (six) and Thailand (three).

Visa will be the main shirt sponsor of EVOS Esports in place of Axis (telecoms, Indonesia), which remains a partner of the organisation. The American group has thus signed its first agreement in the Asian esports market. Visa is entering "one of the biggest games markets in Southeast Asia" where players "spent a total of $1.1bn (€982m) on games" in 2018, according to Newzoo, a Dutch consulting firm specialised in esports.

The Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports also announced that it would recognise esports as an official sport and that it could be included in national and international sports competition programmes, on 29/08/2020.

Visa has already signed esports sponsorship contracts, notably with Faceit, a Russian platform dedicated to the discipline, but also with the German organisation SK Gaming (agreement signed in 2017…
