Greece: Panathinaïkos plans to increase subscription prices to finance renovation of stadium

A 30% increase in the price of new subscriptions for 2014-15 -- to fund the renovation and expansion of the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium (16,620 seats) -- is planned by Giannis Alafouzos, president of Panathinaikos FC (Super League, Greek 1st division), he announced on 14/05/2014.

2013-14 subscribers will see their renewals increased by only 10%. 10,000 subscriptions are on sale for 2014-15. The renovation is expected to begin in December 2014, and will last from three and four months. Apostolos Nikolaidis stadium will achieve a 22,000 capacity. The amount of this investment was not disclosed.

This is the seventh renovation to Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium since its construction in 1922. Previous renovations took place in 1928, 1938, 1958, 2001, 2007 and 2013.

Panathinaikos FC had 9,067 subscribers in 2011-12 and 11,434 in 2012-13.

  • Panathinaikos have been prohibited from participating in 2013-14 European competitions 2013-14 by CFCB (Club Financial Control Body of UEFA, Union of European Football Associations).
