MLS: Findlay Sports and The Cordish Companies want to create franchise in Las Vegas

The American company Findlay Sports and Entertainment and The Cordish Companies Real Estate Group are negotiating with MLS (Major League Soccer, the North American football league) to create a franchise in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA), the league said on 15/05/2014.

"We recently met with Justin Findlay and Blake Cordish at the MLS League office in New York and were very impressed with their vision to pursue building a new soccer stadium and acquiring an MLS expansion club for Las Vegas. We look forward to continuing discussions as they work to further develop their plans with Mayor [Carolyn] Goodman and the City of Las Vegas," said Mark Abbott, deputy commissioner of MLS.

Findlay Sports and The Cordish Companies plan to build a 24,000-capacity stadium dedicated to football in the center of Las Vegas.

MLS 2020:

MLS has 19 franchises, but five more will join the league by 2020:

  • New York City FC: 2015
  • Orlando City SC: 2015
  • Atlanta: 2017
  • Miami: 2016 or 2017, but MLS has not formalised its entry, as no agreement was reached on the stadium that Miami wants to build.
