Covid-19/FC Schalke 04: 300 key workers invited for the club's first two matches of 2020-21

FC Schalke 04 (Bundesliga) will invite 300 "key workers" (healthcare staff, nursing home staff etc.) who have been involved in the fight against Covid-19, for the first two official matches played by the club at Veltins Arena (62,000 capacity) during the 2020-21 season, versus 1. FC Schweinfurt (first round of the DFB-Pokal, 13/09/2020) and Sport Verein Werder Bremen (Matchday 2 of the Bundesliga, 26/09/2020), announced the German club on 08/09/2020.

Germany plans to extend until the end of 2020 the ban on public attendance at stadiums, cultural venues, festivals and fairs, with exceptions in regions where the rate of Coronavirus infection is low "if it is ensured that participants come exclusively from that region or neighbouring regions" where the spread of the virus is also contained. FC Schalke 04 has obtained an exemption from the public authorities in order to be able to accommodate 300 people for each of the home matches, all of whom will be invited free of charge.
