World Rugby: turnover of £24.08m (€26.7m) and net loss of £62.3m (€69m) for the 2018 financial year

World Rugby posted a turnover of £24.08m (€26.7m) for the 2018 financial year (from 01/07/2017 to 31/12/2018), according to the International Federation in its "Year in Review 2019" published on 09/09/2020.

With competition-related expenditure of £32.9m (€36.4m), grant-related expenditure of £24.2m (€26.8m) and administrative expenditure of £32.7m (€36.2m), the body posted a net loss of £62.3m (€69m), a loss that will be offset by the Rugby World Cup 2019 revenue, compiled in its next report.

World Rugby has 105 member federations and 18 associated federations and counts 9.6 million players worldwide, of which 3.5 million hold the equivalent of an licence and 2.7 million are women, according to the body in its report which gives a detailed assessment of the 2019 World Cup in Japan (see below).

"Japan 2019, the first Rugby World Cup in Asia, has proved to be a real game-changer for the sport across the world's most populous continent. The tournament has inspired 2.25 million new rugby participants in Asia, including 1.18 million in Japan alone," said World Rugby.
