Atalanta BC: Gewiss Stadium authorised by UEFA to host Champions League home games in 2020-21

UEFA has authorised Atalanta BC (Serie A TIM) to host its 2020-21 Champions League home games at its Gewiss Stadium (24,000 capacity), according to Bergamo (Lombardy, ITA) club on 08/09/2020. A delegation from the European Confederation spent two days in the Italian city on 07 and 08/09/2020 to ensure that the stadium complied with UEFA standards for hosting European Cup matches.

Atalanta BC played its home matches of the 2019-20 edition of the Champions League (in which the club reached the quarterfinals) at the San Siro (78,328 capacity) in Milan (Lombardy, ITA), around 60km from Bergamo.

The Gewiss Stadium has been undergoing major renovation work since the end of April 2019 as requested by UEFA, ahead of the first matchday of the group stage of the 2020-21 European competition, scheduled for 20 and 21/10/2020. Part of this work (especially the media areas and hospitality areas for UEFA guests) is yet to be completed.
