South Korean electronics group Samsung announced on 08/05/2014 an initiative related to the World Cup in Brazil (12/06 to 13/07/2014): a "football mode", which automatically adjusts the settings for picture and sound on smart TVs.

Activated through a button on the remote, the football mode gives livelier colours and ups the contrast between the pitch and players' shirts. It also turns up the volume. The viewer can re-watch certain plays and save them on an external hard disk, thanks to the replay function. It can also pause and zoom-in on plays. Finally, he can directly comment on the match on social networks (Facebook, Twitter and Skype).

“This is an incredibly intelligent piece of technology,” said Samsung executive Brad Wright. “The processing engine analyses the action from the game, paying particular attention to the commentators and the scoreboard, and automatically records the key highlights so you can go back and watch them again.” The football mode also uses this algorithm to create a summary of the match, relying on noise variation in the stadium.
