Bundesliga: "Our biggest competitors will be the Premier League and Netflix" (C. Seifert, DFL)

"How can young people become enthusiastic about the Bundesliga? All the more so if fewer people are allowed to enter the stadiums, as is currently the case with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis. Our biggest competitors in the future will be the Premier League and Netflix (the American video-on-demand platform)," said Christian Seifert, CEO and spokesperson for the DFL in an interview with the German magazine Kicker on 14/09/2020.

Seifert has carefully read the report published on 02/09/2020 by the ECA, entitled "Fan of the Future: Defining Modern Football Fandom" (document available to download) which focuses on how fans engage with and consume football. "40% of survey respondents aged 16-24 claimed to have no interest in football, sparking fears of a 'missing generation' of fans," states the report.
