Covid-19: Premier League disappointed at Government decision to postpone return of fans to stadiums

"The Premier League notes the Government's announcement today and while the health of the nation must remain everyone's priority, we are disappointed that the safe return of supporters to matches has been postponed," said the English league on 22/09/2020.

"We have to acknowledge that the spread of the virus is now affecting our ability to reopen business conferences, exhibitions and large sporting events," said the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the House of Commons on 22/09/2020. The return of spectators to Premier League stadiums was initially envisaged from 01/10/2020.

"I recognise the implications for our sports clubs which are the life and soul of our communities. The chancellor and the culture secretary are working urgently on what we can do now to support them," added the Prime Minister, who explained that the new measures could apply for "perhaps six months."
