Serie A TV rights: Mediapro negotiating to join an investment fund offer (press)

The Spanish audiovisual group Mediapro is seeking to join one of the two consortia that have made bids to acquire shares in the future media company that the Lega Serie A wants to create for the management of its broadcasting rights, according to the Italian business daily Il Sole 24 Ore on 22/09/2020.

The twenty Serie A TIM clubs unanimously decided "to give the green light to the in-depth analysis necessary for the creation of a media company" on 09/09/2020. "We are going to look further into the two consortium proposals for the media company because there are a few details to check. The League has been working for years with intermediaries, but it is time for its value to remain in-house," said Paolo Dal Pino, president of the Italian League.

According to Italian media on 09/09/2020, the first consortium would be made up of CVC Capital Partners, a Luxembourg fund present notably in rugby (see related article), the American fund Advent and the Italian public fund FSI (Fondo Strategico Italiano), which would offer €1.65bn to acquire 10% of the future company over 10 years.
