Romania: Liga I may streamline to 14 clubs (from 18) in 2015-16 to improve competitiveness

Liga I (Romanian 1^st division championship) may streamline, going from 18 to 14 clubs in the 2015-16 season, the LPF (Romanian Professional Football League) announced on 17/05/2014. The goal is to improve the competitiveness of the Romanian championship.

La Liga II (Romanian 2^nd division) would also be affected by a change in format; It currently consists of two groups of 12 teams, and it would consist of a single pool of 20 teams beginning in 2015-16, if the reform is confirmed.

Before being implemented, the proposal from the LPF must be approved by Romanian clubs. It would have the support of several of the country's big clubs, including Steaua Bucharest.
