German Cup: Best pre-World Cup football ratings for 2013-114 on ARD were for final match

The German public broadcaster ARD had 14.27m viewers on average during the final match of the German Cup in 2014, played by Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund (2-0) on 17/05/2014. This represents a market share of 48%.

These are the best football ratings in Germany since the beginning of the 2013-14 season, and the best in the history of the DFB Pokal, beating the 13.55m viewers watching the 5-2 victory of Borussia over Bayern in the final of the 2012 season.

The record ratings for a match between the two German clubs was the final of the 2013 Champions League (2-1 Bavarians) on 25/05/2013, when 21.61m viewers watched the match in Germany, or 61.7% of market share.

• According to specialist German media reports, the best ratings of the 2013-14 season will likely be for the 2014 World Cup (Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014), which should pull in 20m German viewers for at least one match of its national team.
