European Top 5: playing time of players aged 21 or under is the highest in Ligue 1 (CIES)

Ligue 1 Uber Eats clubs give players aged 21 or under the most playing time (15.4% of the minutes played) among the European Top 5, according to the CIES Football Observatory's weekly post, published on 21/09/2020. The study, which covers 80 top leagues around the world, takes into account cumulative playing time since the start of the 2015-16 season.

Among the European Top 5, the Premier League is the league in which clubs offer the least playing time to the youngest players (7.1% of minutes). Across all leagues, Estonia (31.1%), Latvia (27.2%) and Slovenia (26.4%) make up the podium.

In the last two places of the ranking are the Turkish Süper Lig (4.1%) and the Chinese Super League (CSL, 3.9%). "This very low proportion indicates that China is not yet ready to become a football power as local talents struggle to gain experience," said CIES.
