Argentina: Businessman wants to broadcast championships abroad through paid streaming

The Argentine businessman Cristobal Lopez is negotiating with the AFA (Argentine Football Association) for the acquisition of internet broadcasting rights, outside of Argentina, for Argentine professional competitions, the Argentine press reported on 10/05/2014.

If he manages to acquire these rights, Cristobal Lopez reportedly intends to operate a pay streaming platform. Subscriptions would cost an estimated €3-€4 € per month, the user could access all of the matches of the first and second national divisions, as well as summaries of these matches, compilations of the best goals and exclusive content.

Established in 2009 by the government of Argentine president Cristina Kirchner, the "Fútbol para todos" ("football for all") program currently allows the Argentine see first and second division matches for free on the public channel TV Pública and DeporTV, a digital public channel available via satellite. There is also a website (futbolparatodos.com) where it is possible, at present, to see or revisit these free games.
