Bundesliga: international TV rights to drop by 20% in 2020-21, from €250m to €200m (press)

The Bundesliga's international TV rights are set to fall from €250m to €200m for the 2020-21 season (-20% compared to 2019-20), according to the German website sponsors.de on 29/09/2020.

The 2019-20 season was notably the last of the contract between the DFL and the pay-TV group Fox Sports, which covered 80 territories (USA, Latin America, South-East Asia). In the MENA region, the German League has not reached an agreement with the pay-TV group beIN Sports and is looking for a new broadcaster.

"The challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic are among the most serious the industry has faced. There are many examples of media rights contracts that have been terminated, cancelled or not renewed in recent months. So when it comes to our international growth, we need to think long term. In South America, for example, the market environment has recently been impacted by macroeconomic difficulties and a changing media landscape.
