Canal+ has increased its stake in the South African pay-TV group MultiChoice beyond the 5% threshold on 29/09/2020 and now holds 6.5% of the capital of the "leader of pay-TV in Africa," announced the French free and pay TV group on 05/10/2020.

"In accordance with South Africa's stock exchange legislation, MultiChoice Group has been notified of this capital increase. This acquisition, a long-term financial investment, demonstrates the confidence of the Canal+ Group and its shareholder Vivendi in the prospects of MultiChoice and the African continent, to which they are very attached," said Canal+.

The pay-TV sports group Supersport International is one of the subsidiaries of MultiChoice, itself a subsidiary of the South African press group Naspers.

Canal+ group is already directly present in the French-speaking countries of sub-Saharan Africa where it notably broadcasts or co-broadcasts the Top 5 European leagues (Premier League, LaLiga Santander, Bundesliga, Serie A TIM, Ligue 1 Uber Eats) as well as the Champions League.
