Bridge-transfer case: FIFA suspends sanctions against the Uruguayan club IASA

Uruguayan club IASA (Institución Atlética Sud América) has appealed the decision of the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) Disciplinary Committee, FIFA announced on 20/05/2014. The 05/03/2014 decision on the "bridge-transfer" case had imposed a transfer ban at both the national and international levels for two complete and consecutive transfer periods. The Montevideo club's appeal will be considered by the Appeals Committee of FIFA. The president of this body, Larry Mussenden (Bermuda) granted a suspension of the sanctions during the appeal.

The IASA is accused of bridge transfers, for non-sports reasons, of six Argentine players.

"In reaching this decision, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee took into account a number of considerations including: the sanctions imposed against the club; the complexity of the matter; the start date of the next registration period of 30/06/2014; and the fact that the FIFA Appeal Committee does not appear to be in a position to take a decision on the main issue early enough to enable any possible subsequent appeal of the…
