Atalanta BC: Gewiss Stadium officially authorised by UEFA to host Champions League matches

"It's now official: the Gewiss Stadium  (24,000 capacity) will host Atalanta BC's (Serie A TIM) next home games in the 2020-2021 Champions League. The final green light was given by UEFA this afternoon," announced the Italian club on 07/10/2020. A delegation from the European Confederation spent two days in Bergamo, on 07 and 08/09/2020, to ensure that the stadium complies with UEFA standards for hosting European Cup matches.

During the 2019-20 edition of the Champions League, in which Atalanta BC reached the quarterfinals, the club played its home matches at the San Siro (78,328 capacity) in Milan (Lombardy, ITA), around 60km from Bergamo.

The Gewiss Stadium has been undergoing major renovations since the end of April 2019, part of which still had to be completed (mainly media areas and hospitality areas for UEFA guests), at UEFA's request, prior to the first matchday of the group stage of the 2020-21 edition of the European competition, scheduled on 20 and 21/10/2020.
