Transfers: Manchester City FC, club that spent the most (€1.036bn) composing its 2020-21 squad

With €1.036bn paid out in transfer fees, Manchester City FC (Premier League) is the European Top 5 club that has spent the most composing its 2020-21 squad, according to the CIES Football Observatory's Weekly Post, published on 12/10/2020.

In 2019-20, the English club became the first club to have paid more than €1bn building its squad, and remains the only club to have passed this milestone for 2020-21. Next are Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1 Uber Eats, €888m) and Manchester United FC (Premier League, €844m).

The Bundesliga is the only league among the European Top 5 to have no representatives in the Top 10 highest spending clubs in 2020-21, since the highest ranked German club is FC Bayern Munich in 15^th place (€408m).

59 clubs in the Top 5 have spent more than €100m on their current squad: all 20 Premier League clubs, 14 Serie A TIM clubs, 9 (out of 18) Bundesliga clubs, 7 LaLiga Santander clubs and 7 Ligue 1 Uber Eats clubs.
