Serie A TV rights: League begins exclusive negotiations with the CVC-Advent-FSI consortium

The Lega Serie A is entering exclusive negotiations with the consortium composed of CVC Capital Partners, a Luxembourg fund with a particular presence in rugby (see related news), the American fund Advent and the Italian public fund FSI (Fondo Strategico Italiano), for the creation of a media company to manage the audiovisual rights of the Serie A TIM from 2021-22, after a decision at the League's general assembly on 13/10/2020. The duration of the negotiations will be four weeks from that date. 15 of the 20 clubs voted in favour and five abstained, according to Italian media.

The consortium plans to acquire 10% of the media company for €1.6bn, with an advance of €1.08bn payable upon signature, according to Italian media reports. From the 2024-25 season, the consortium would receive, in addition to the company's dividends, a performance bonus equal to 10% of the difference between the revenue received by the clubs for the current year and the amount received in 2019-20, up to a maximum of €40m to €45m, again according to Italian media sources.
