Serie A: U.S. investment fund makes bid for Cagliari club

A bid for Cagliari Calcio (Serie A) has been made to Massimo Cellino, the club's owner, by a U.S. investment fund, according to its representative in Italy, Luca Silvestrone, on 19/05/2014.

The offer is estimated at €85m by the Italian press. Luca Silvestrone was in Sardinia until 24/05/2014 to visit the facilities and evaluate the assets of the club. The project involves the construction of a new stadium (capacity 20,000 to 25,000) by the American architect Dan Meis, who designed the new stadium of AS Roma (Serie A). The stadium could be delivered in 2017.

Massimo Cellino is in the United States on 26 and 27/05/2015 to meet with the U.S. investors. The club's owner since 1992, Cellino is an Italian businessman who took over Leeds United (Championship, 2nd British division) on 05/04/2014. "I'm too busy repairing the damage to Leeds; I cannot have two clubs. I have to choose which club I should save and I chose Leeds," he told the BBC on 19/05/2014.
