The Mineirão Stadium, located in Belo Horizonte (population: 2.375m, capital of Minas Gerais) was renovated for the 2014 World Cup. The resident club of the stadium, inaugurated in 1965, is Cruzeiro (2014 Serie A).

The 57,480-seat stadium was funded with a loan of 400m reais (€140m) from the the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), or 58% of the estimated cost of 690m reais (€227m). The remaining 42% was funded through a public-private partnership. The Minas Arena consortium will operate the Mineirão stadium until 2035. Il brings together three Brazilian companies: construction companies Construcap and HAP and the mining company, Egesa, based in Belo Horizonte.

The stadium also hosts the National Football Museum. It was officially opened to the public in March 2013.
