Qatar 2022: draw for the European qualifiers in Zurich (SUI) on 12/07/2020

Dividing the 55 European teams into five groups of six teams (30) and five groups of five (25) in order to qualify 13 of them for the final stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (the top 10 from each group and the other three via play-offs, see below) is the aim of the draw for the European qualifiers, which will take place at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich (SUI) on Monday 07/12/2020 from 18:00 CET.

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and related restrictions, the ceremony will be held as a virtual event without the presence of member associations' representatives," said FIFA.

The preliminary competition for the 2022 World Cup has already started in Africa, Asia and South America, according to the world body. In Europe, the teams will compete in two-legged matches between March and November 2021.

For the draw on 07/12/2020, the 55 teams will be placed in six pots - five of 10 teams and one of five - based on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking of 26/11/2020: the 10 highest ranked will be in Pot 1 (see below), the next 10 will be in Pot 2, etc.
