The Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador de Bahia (population 2.990m, capital of Bahia) was inaugurated on 05/04/2013. The stadium has 48,700 seats according to FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) standards. It hosted the 2013 Confederations Cup.

The stadium was built for the 2014 World Cup for an estimated amount of 591m reais (€195m). It belongs to the state of Bahia, which obtained a loan of 323.6m reais (€107m) from the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development). The remaining 267.4m reais (€88m) were funded by the state of Bahia.

The stadium will be operated by Fonte Nova Negocios e Participações until 2045, under a public-private partnership. The company brings together the consultancy agency OAS Arenas and the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, which also built the stadium. Amsterdam Arena, the company which operates Ajax Amsterdam's (Eredivisie) stadium, advises the consortium regarding operational management.
