FC Barcelona: a provisional budget of €828m in 2020-21, 22% lower than in 2019-20

"The board of directors has approved a 2020-21 budget that presents operating income of €828m (€231m less than expected for the 2019-20 season without a pandemic) and operating expenses of €796m (€233m less than the amount forecast for the 2019-20 season)," announced FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander), following the board's ordinary session on 26/10/2020. In the club's strategic plan drawn up in 2015, a provisional budget of €1.1bn was initially set for 2020-21.

"The Board of Directors emphasises the fact that the drop in income is expected to be even greater than that experienced during the 2019-20 financial year (-14%, or €855m in revenue versus €990m in 2018-19), and that it has therefore had to set up a series of internal procedures designed to adapt the costs to these new circumstances, the ultimate goal being to ensure fulfilment of the budget, and to maintain the club's capital balance," added Barça, which is currently trying to reduce its 2020-21 wage bill by negotiating with professional players a deferred payment of part of their salaries over the following seasons.
