2020-21 Premier League: an average of 39,000 viewers for the 9 pay-per-view matches (press)

The first nine matches of the 2020-21 Premier League broadcast pay-per-view by the British pay-TV operators Sky Sports and BT Sport posted an average of 39,000 paid viewers (£14.95/€16.50 per match), according to the British newspaper the Daily Mail on 27/10/2020.

This corresponds to an average of £583,050 (€643,920) in revenue per match, which must be paid back to the clubs (once production costs have been deducted) according to the English press.

Two of the matches posted an audience of between 70,000 and 90,000 viewers while three others drew an audience of less than 10,000 viewers. The Premier League's aim was to draw an audience equivalent to the attendance in stadiums (38,168 spectators on average in 2018-19 before the Covid-19 pandemic), according to the Daily Mail, which reported that the price per match could be revised downwards at a Premier League meeting on 05/11/2020.
