Adidas launches miCoach Smart Ball, a Bluetooth-enabled football

German kit supplier Adidas launched the miCoach Smart Ball, a Bluetooth-enabled football, on its website on 27/05/2014, following three years of development.

The miCoach Smart Ball has sensors that record data relating to the power of the shot, the ball's trajectory and the foot's point of impact. The ball was developed specifically for dead-ball techniques.

The ball communicates via a Bluetooth 4.0 to a free app called miCoach Smart Ball, which is available for iPhone and iPod touch. The app collects, stores and analyses data before presenting them to the user in several modes and graphics, in order to give an accurate view of her sessions and progress over time. The application also allows her to practice through a series of technical challenges and to share her results on social networks. The ball's battery lasts for a day and it comes with a charging dock.
