ESPN: Walt Disney group subsidiary to cut 300 jobs and leave 200 vacant positions

The American pay-TV sports group ESPN, present in the United States, Latin America and Brazil, announced a reduction in its workforce on 05/11/2020.

The group, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, will cut 300 jobs while not filling 200 currently vacant positions, according to American media. ESPN currently employs around 6,000 people.

"For some time, ESPN has been engaged in planning for its future amid huge disruption in the way fans consume sports. The effect of the pandemic on ESPN has clearly accelerated our thinking on all fronts. Today, due to these circumstances, we informed our employees that we have made the difficult decision to downsize to create a more agile and efficient organization," said Jimmy Pitaro, president of ESPN, on 05/11/2020.

"We are parting ways with many outstanding teammates, all of whom have made important contributions to ESPN. These are not easy decisions and we will work hard to ease their transitions. We will move forward in a way that allows us to continue to best serve sports fans," he added.
