NBA: the 2020-21 regular season will include 72 games per franchise and will start on 22/12/2020

The 2020-21 NBA season will begin on 22/12/2020, the National Basketball Association announced on 09/11/2020. Each franchise will play 72 regular season games, which is 10 fewer than the usual 82-game schedule. The calendar will be announced later.

"The league said a new system will be used to ensure that the split of basketball-related income continues, one of the many details that had to be collectively bargained with the union because the current agreement between the sides had a great deal of language that needed reworking because of the coronavirus pandemic," jointly stated NBA and its players' association.

With this resumption scheduled for 22/12/2020, and not 18/01/2021 as desired by several players, the playoffs for the 2020-21 season should end in July 2021, before the Olympic Summer Games are held. (Tokyo 2020 is now scheduled from 23/07 to 08/08/2021). The players could thus join their national teams before the start of the Olympics.
