Premier League/Sky Bet Championship: 64% of clubs (28 out of 44) have foreign owners in 2020-21

28 of the 44 clubs participating in the 2020-21 English first and second divisions - 20 clubs in the Premier League and 24 in the Sky Bet Championship - are owned by a foreign owner, i.e. nearly 64%, according to the infographic compiled by News Tank Football on 10/11/2020 (see below).

The latest club to move to foreign ownership is Derby County FC (Sky Bet Championship), now controlled, via Derventio Holdings (UK) Limited, by Bin Zayed International LLC, owned by Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan, a family member of the Emir of Abu Dhabi. An agreement in principle between the seller, English businessman Melvyn Morris, and the Emirati company, as well as a validation of the transaction by the English Football League were announced by the club on 06/11/2020. The transaction is expected to be finalised in the very near future, making Derby County the second English club owned by funds from the UAE, after Manchester City FC (Premier League).
