Manchester United FC: a turnover of £109m (-19.5%) for the first quarter of 2020-21

Manchester United FC (Premier League) posted a turnover of £109m (€119.5m on 30/09/2020) for the first quarter of the 2021 financial year (from 01/07 to 30/09/2020), down 19.5% versus 2020 (£135.4m/€152.9m), announced the English club on 12/11/2020.

The club's commercial revenues were down 25.7% (to £59.7m/€65.4m, versus £80.4m/€90.8m on 30/09/2019), mainly due to the sharp 31.9% decrease in sponsorship revenue (-31.9%) resulting from the absence of a pre-season tour abroad. Matchday revenue dropped sharply (to £1.7m/€1.9m, down 92.3%), as the Premier League has been operating behind closed doors since the restart of the 2019-20 season in June 2020.

TV rights, however, were up 44.7% (to £47.6m/€52.2m), due to a greater number of matches played over the period compared with the previous season. The English championship ended on 26/07/2020, with Manchester United then taking part in the Final 8 of the Europa League (semi-finalists) in August 2020.
