Italy: 32.4 million Italians interested in football, 4.6 million play (FIGC, Integrated Report 2019)

32.4 million Italians say they are interested in football, or 64% of the Italian population aged over 18, indicated the FIGC in its Integrated Report 2019, published on 19/11/2020 (document to download, see below).

Globally, the audience for Italian football reaches 2.3 billion viewers, notes this document "which is in its fifth edition and which analyzes the social, economic and financial capital that football represents for Italy".

Italian football counts, according to the Integrated Report 2019:
• 4.6 million practitioners.
• 1.4 million licensees (or 24% of the total of 44 national sports federations affiliated to CONI).
• More than 570,000 official matches played per year (or an average of one kick-off every 55 seconds if the matches took place 24 hours a day throughout the year), 99% of which in amateur football and youth categories.
• Direct turnover estimated at 5 billion euros (12% of world football turnover).
