FC Barcelona: agreement in principle on a 2020-21 salary cut for players down €122m

The representatives of FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) and those of the players of the professional squad have reached an agreement in principle to reduce the salaries of the latter by €122m in total for the 2020-21 season, a decrease in fixed compensation to which is added a deferral of the budgeted variable portion of €50m and which will be spread over the next three seasons, announced the Catalan club on 27/11/2020.

Barça management (first the executive committee chaired by Josep Maria Bartomeu, and then the current management committee since the resignation of the former on 27/10/2020) has been negotiating for several weeks a decrease in player salaries due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the club's finances, which forced the club to present a 2020-21 estimated budget down 22% compared to that of 2019-20, to €828m (see below).
