IOC: Thomas Bach, sole candidate, guaranteed to be re-elected for a four year term in March 2021

"President Thomas Bach will be the only candidate for the presidential election, which will be held during the 137^th IOC Session in Athens (GRE) in March 2021 (10-12/03/2021)," announced the International Olympic Committee on 01/12/2020.

"As decided by the IOC executive board, the elected president will take office after the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which will take place from 23/07 to 08/08/2021," explained the world body.

"The Session elects, by secret ballot, a President from among its members for a term of eight years renewable once for four years," provides article 20, paragraph 1 of the Olympic Charter (document available to download).

President of the IOC since 10/09/2013, Thomas Bach (GER) should therefore be re-elected in 2021 for a term ending in 2025.
