Liverpool FC: planning application to extend the Anfield Road stand to be submitted to City Council

Liverpool FC (Premier League) are submitting a planning application to the Liverpool City Council (Merseyside, ENG) this week to extend the Anfield Road stand at Anfield (53,394 capacity), announced the club on 30/11/2020.

After refurbishing one of the two main stands (the "Main Stand") in 2016 to add around 9,000 seats, Liverpool FC wants to increase the total capacity of its stadium to over 61,000, by adding around 7,000 extra seats to the Anfield Road stand.

"The submission of the planning application was paused in spring this year due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of the application, the club is also seeking permanent permission to hold concerts and major events at the stadium," said Liverpool FC, who should receive a response from the City Council in spring 2021.

The club's request follows two phases of public consultation with local residents, local businesses, fans and other stakeholders in December 2019 and February 2020, which gathered over 700 responses "with the vast majority of respondents expressing support for the plans."
