UEFA: impact of amateur football in 25 European countries estimated at €39.4bn per year

8.6 million licensed amateur players in 25 of the 55 countries covered by UEFA (including Germany, England and Italy from the European Top 5, see list below) generate €39.4bn a year "in direct and in-kind savings" for the economy, health and society, according to the European Confederation on 03/12/2020.

According to UEFA, this €39.4bn is broken down into the three areas as follows:
• "Economy: €10.8bn (27.4%) through club membership fees, equipment, merchandise, travel, food & beverages and investment in infrastructure.
• Society: €12.3bn (31.2%) in-kind savings through the positive social impact of football on communities. With its emphasis on teamwork, discipline and equal access for everyone, regardless of ability, race or gender, football strengthens and educates local communities. This, in turn, increases earning potential by creating volunteer/employment opportunities as well as reducing crime rates.
