Premier League: agreement for a £200m interest-free loan for the benefit of second division clubs

"The EFL and the Premier League have concluded negotiations on a rescue package (£50m) and distress fund (£200m) to address the immediate financial challenges faced by EFL clubs arising as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic," announced the two bodies on 03/12/2020.

The 72 clubs that make up the 2nd, 3rd and 4th divisions in England had already agreed in principle to accept the rescue package proposed by the Premier League, namely a financial contribution of £50m (€55m, in the form of grants and controlled payments, see below) for Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two clubs only, on 12/11/2020.

Having become urgent, this financial aid aims to cover ticketing losses for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons for 3rd and 4th division clubs, particularly affected by the lack of matchday revenue due to the absence of spectators in stadiums as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.

In addition to this rescue package, a "loan facility" of £200m (€220m) has been set up, available for Sky Bet Championship clubs through interest-free loans (see below). According to the agreement, the Premier League will…
